This August 2015, marks the 69th year of India’s Independence. Independence Day is the biggest celebration of India, which is annually observed on 15th August as India got Independence on 15th August 1947. India gears up to celebrate 68 years of independence from the British on Saturday to remember those who fought selfless for the freedom of the country and those who shaped its destiny in the subsequent years with their vision and wisdom. Thousands of brave warriors and soldiers laid down their lives to free India so that our country could breathe free and celebrate Independence.

The Indian National Flag symbolizes national pride and is one of the most respectable national symbols. The first Prime Minister of India, Jawaharlal Nehru called it “a flag not only of freedom for us, but a symbol of freedom to all people. India’s flag is a tricolour standard, with bands of saffron, white, and dark green. The saffron represents courage, sacrifice, and patriotism. The green stands for faith, fertility and the land. The white is in the centre, symbolizes the hope for unity and peace. In the centre of the white band, there is a blue wheel with 24 spokes called Ashoka Chakra (or “Wheel of Law”). On this Independence Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi hoists the tricolor at Red Fort, New Delhi.
